This is a wonderful tea - rich in flavor, good for you and without caffeine
The taste is very different however. I love this tea and drink several cups daily. I am very disappointed that the formulation seems to have been changed. The tea is much milder and actually a bit sweet. I just bought 4 packages of Freshpak rooibos tea with an expiration date of Dec 18, 2009. These are packaged differently and do not reference South Africa on the top.
For those who aren't familiar with Rooibos Tea, it is very similar to good Black tea in flavor, minus the bitter after taste and minus the cafeen and tanic acid, but with the anti-oxidents and other GOOD stuff. and although the shipping price is a bit high for something so light in weight, I can't complain because the tea is even better than I remember it. Refreshing and delicious stuff. In the '70s there was an herbal tea that I really loved from South Africa, but then came the boycott of South African goods and I could never again find it. Recently I did some research and found that the tea was once again available (though not by the brand name I knew) by the actual name of the tea "Rooibos".So I made an oorder through Amazon.
A good sturdy drink for milk and sugar, but lightly sweet and even a tiny bit floral, and lovely to have just on its own. I started drinking this rooibos tea after cutting down on caffeine and have been loving it. It's nice and strong, but not overpoweringly so.
it has magical healing properties very similar to mothers milk. it is calming and peaceful. rooibos is the best tea in the world. i highly recommend this tea - in its original flavor - no added anything to change the essence of this wonderful tea. please try it - you'll love it. it is an antioxidant equivalent to green tea but without the nasty caffeine. i grew up drinking it in south africa as a child and still enjoy it here in the USA as an adult.
